Japanese Vehicles to Myanmar
Myanmar is a left-hand drive country, which makes it different from most of Asia's Japanese used-car markets. Vehicles must be left-hand drive, and used imports are controlled through permit schemes and year bands. HR Trading confirms the current position with your agent and sources left-hand drive stock registered in Japan wherever it is available.

How an Import to Myanmar Works
- 1
Confirm the current import position with your agent in Myanmar — permitted year bands and permit schemes have changed several times.
- 2
Choose a left-hand drive vehicle that falls inside the permitted year range.
- 3
We complete the pre-export inspection and the Japanese export documents in the importer's name.
- 4
The car ships to Yangon and is unloaded at Thilawa.
- 5
Your agent files with Customs, duty and commercial tax are assessed, and the vehicle is registered locally.
Left-Hand Drive Only
Myanmar drives on the right, so a right-hand drive vehicle from Japan cannot be registered there. Japan's domestic fleet is overwhelmingly right-hand drive, but left-hand drive vehicles are registered in Japan too — models built for European and other left-hand drive markets — and those are what we source for Myanmar. Availability varies by model and year, so we always confirm a specific car's steering and specification before you commit.
Permits and Year Bands
Used vehicle imports into Myanmar run through permit and licensing arrangements, with the permitted year band set by policy rather than left open. Because those bands have been adjusted several times, we ask you to confirm the current rule with your agent before we source, and we then match a vehicle to the exact year range permitted.
Shipping to Yangon
Yangon is a short haul from Japan at roughly 14 to 20 days, and Thilawa handles the bulk of vehicle traffic. We issue the Bill of Lading, export certificate and commercial invoice as soon as they are released, and we can arrange container shipping where a buyer prefers that to RoRo.
Models That Suit Myanmar
Road conditions and load demand favour durable vehicles: the Toyota Land Cruiser and Prado for heavy-duty use, the Toyota HiLux and Nissan Navara for pickups, and the Toyota HiAce for passenger transport. Left-hand drive versions of these models do come out of Japan, and we will confirm what is realistically available for your budget and year range.
