Japanese Used Cars to Mozambique
Mozambique drives on the left, so right-hand drive Japanese stock is a direct fit — one of the reasons the country is such a natural market for cars exported from Japan. We ship to Maputo in the south, Beira in the centre and Nacala in the north, and prepare documentation for buyers who are taking the vehicle on to Zimbabwe, Malawi or Zambia.

How an Import to Mozambique Works
- 1
Choose the vehicle and the port closest to where the car will be used — Maputo, Beira or Nacala.
- 2
We complete the pre-export inspection and the Japanese export documentation in your name.
- 3
The car ships RoRo from Japan to your chosen Mozambican port with the final destination stated in the documents.
- 4
Your clearing agent lodges the customs entry and Alfândega assesses duty, excise and VAT on the CIF value.
- 5
The vehicle is released for registration, or cleared in transit if it is travelling on to Zimbabwe, Malawi or Zambia.
Three Ports, Three Catchments
Maputo serves the south and the South African cross-border trade, Beira is the gateway for central Mozambique and inland Zimbabwe, and Nacala handles the north and Malawi's import traffic. Choosing the port closest to the vehicle's final home cuts the inland transport cost more than any other decision, so tell us where the car will be used and we will ship to the port that saves you the most.
Right-Hand Drive Is an Advantage
Because Mozambique drives on the left, Japanese domestic vehicles go straight onto Mozambican roads without steering conversion. That is not true of every market we serve, and it is why we can offer the full range of Japanese stock — cars, pickups, vans and trucks — rather than only what happens to be available in left-hand drive.
Customs Duty and Clearance
Mozambican customs assess duty on the CIF value, apply excise according to engine capacity and add 16% VAT, with port and terminal charges payable separately. Vehicles destined for Zimbabwe or Malawi can be cleared in transit at Beira or Nacala instead of being imported into Mozambique, which we support by stating the correct final destination on the Bill of Lading.
What Buyers in Mozambique Choose
The market is dominated by vehicles that can take bad roads and carry a load. The Toyota HiLux, Nissan NP300 and Mitsubishi L200 are the pickups of choice, the Toyota Land Cruiser and Mitsubishi Pajero handle heavy-duty and remote work, and the Toyota Corolla covers city and family use. HiAce vans are in constant demand for passenger transport in Maputo and Beira.
